Twin Cities home builders say residential construction picked up in June after a disappointing start to the year.
According to the monthly report from the Builders Association of the Twin Cities, 476 permits were issued in June for a total of 1,150 units. Single-family permits were up 12 percent from June 2014, while multifamily permits were up 55 percent.
Since last October, the total number of permitted units had been below 1,000. There were only 451 in April and 516 in May.
BATC President Chris Contreras said:
“After several months of disappointing numbers, we’re pleased to see a boost in the market. We’re hopeful that this trend will continue, putting the Midwest back on track with the rest of the country for an improving housing market.”
Minneapolis issued permits for 308 units in June; Maple Grove had 228, Chaska had 48 units, Lakeville 48 and Woodbury issued permits for 41 units.
