Gov. Mark Dayton and Sen. Amy Klobuchar will be among the speakers Friday at the inauguration of Gustavus Adolphus College President Rebecca Bergman.

The ceremony, at the St. Peter, Minn., college’s Christ Chapel, begins at 2:30 p.m.

Bergman is the private liberal arts college’s 17th president in its 152-year history; she’s been working as president since July 1, but Friday’s ceremony will make it official.

Bergman is the college’s first woman president; she comes to academia from a 26-year career at Medtronic, where she’d been vice president of Research, Technology, and Therapy Delivery Systems for the company’s Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management business.

Also taking part in Bergman’s inauguration ceremony will be her father, Rev. Dr. Harold Weiss, the former Bishop of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and the Rev. Jon Anderson, Bishop of the Southwestern Minnesota Synod of the ELCA.
